Active Living in Phoenix: Love the Place Where You Live

IMG_9050Is anyone else as excited by this weather as I am? While the rest of the country is buried in snow and grey skies, we have ourselves a merry little time in the Valley of the Sun. I love to run and hike, and spring time in Phoenix means lots of races and hiking opportunities (almost every weekend). Get out there, find your ‘thing’, and love the place where you live!

Here are my favorite upcoming races in the Phoenix area: [Read more…]

The Sunshine Never Stops in Peoria, AZ

The Sunshine Never Stops in Peoria, AZ

One of my favorite mottos in both business and life comes from the late Eleanor Roosevelt, an expert on positivity and finding happiness in small things:

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”

Arizona is the perfect place to bask in the sun! The city of Peoria provides countless new experiences for all of the residents in the Phoenix area. Check out these cool hotspots in and around Peoria, AZ and get outside and enjoy life in the Valley of the Sun!

Wildlife World Zoo

Slightly to the west of Peoria (next to Luke Air Force Base) lies the best kept secret in Phoenix: the Wildlife World Zoo. The zoo has been accumulating some of the rarest animals in the world for the past thirty years (including an albino alligator!). Privately owned and operated, the park expects to expand another 15 acres within the next few years and preserve even more wildlife. This is definitely a place to take the kids for hands-on exhibits of rare species of reptiles, insects, mammals, and birds. The best part for me? Getting licked in the face by a giraffe!

Living in Peoria, AZ

Living in Peoria, AZ

FootHillsLibrary_Peoria_AZWhile I could go on and on about how much I love morning runs through my Peoria neighborhood, the truly wonderful thing about living in Peoria, AZ comes down to the three E’s of buying a home: employment, education, entertainment. Even before I take clients around Arizona shopping for homes, I get to know their specific needs: where do they work, where do their children learn, and where do they have fun. As luck would have it, Peoria is a gold mine for all three of these needs (not to mention buying a home in Peoria is very affordable). Here is a list about how awesome it is living in Peoria, AZ.

Employment in Peoria

The Arizona job market is on the rise as our economy and housing market grows. Peoria is a top contender for one of the most economically viable communities based on its job availability and continued growth. Recently, the city of Peoria partnered with Trine University to strengthen the cities workforce and bring in higher paying, higher technology positions. This addition represents a turn in the city’s focus towards higher paying jobs for its qualified residents. Already, we are seeing high tech job opportunities in Peoria! For instance, Aviage Systems of Shanghai, China, a commercial aircraft engineering, design, and development company, recently broke ground on a huge facility in the heart of Peoria. The city’s Economic Development Services Director Scott Whyte claims, “It’s a civil-avionics partnership that creates a great opportunity to grow in the areas of innovation technology and enhance our workforce. We’re very excited.” This is not the first global innovations company to settle down in Peoria (and it won’t be the last!) [Read more…]

Living in North Scottsdale AZ & Unwanted Pests

phoenix-az-east-valley-4Living among the desert landscape can offer serene views, brilliant sunsets and the feeling of getting away from the busy life.  It also means that you are sharing your land with some of Mother Nature’s creatures, and while you are all about preserving the natural landscape and it’s inhabitants, you don’t necessarily want them in your home.

If you are seasonal visitor or if this is your first time living in the heart of desert, here are a few of the common pests you may find throughout the Valley of the Sun, and what you can do to keep them at bay.

Lender’s Corner Featuring Jimmy Vercellino

QUOTE OF THE WEEK… “Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain — and most fools do.” –Benjamin Franklin, American statesman and Founding Father

INFO THAT HITS US WHERE WE LIVE… There were things to complain about in last week’s housing reports, but grousing about the monthly numbers could look foolish in the long run. New Home Sales were down 7.0% for December, to a 414,000 annual rate. But dips sometimes occur in winter and December was snowier and colder than usual. Many observers expect a rebound in new home sales when the weather gets back to normal. Looking longer term, sales are up 4.5% over a year ago, with builders selling 430,000 new homes in 2013, the most since 2008. The 12-month moving average for new homes sales is at its highest level since February 2009. [Read more…]
