Let me tell you something (in case you didn’t know). The best part of my job is that I get to discover Phoenix, AZ every day with my clients. I love my city for its interesting neighborhoods and vibrant downtown! I relive the excitement of buying a home in Phoenix with each new client and wouldn’t trade that feeling of “new beginnings and endless possibility” for the world. Buying a home isn’t always happy bliss though… which is where I step in.
Here are a few tips of the trade when it comes to buying a home in Phoenix:
Know what you’re getting into.
It’s easy to shop online and drive around to homes in Phoenix, admiring the crown molding and the big backyard “we can install a pool!!”. Hate to break it to you, but it’s important to start the buying a home process in your bank account. Know how much you have, how much you want to spend ideally, and how much you can stretch your budget. If you don’t create a reasonably range before you begin the home buying process, you might find yourself shopping in neighborhoods that aren’t ideal for your needs and budget! I can help you with all of this planning. Your wallet doesn’t determine your dream in my book!
Find your top three priorities.
Phoenix is a huge city (obviously). The whole world in Arizona is at your fingertips as you begin the buying a home process! Do you have kids? Will you have kids in the future? Do you mind commuting to and from work? Do you prefer a more urban setting or like large plots of land? The awesome thing about Phoenix real estate is that you can customize almost any set of preferences and find something that works for you! Ask yourself and your family about the top three most important things to you. I usually limit it to three top priorities, but there can be a longer list. I love the challenge!
Be prepared for additional costs.
While this is not always the most fun thing to read, it is crucial that you have a separate budget from your home-buying money to cover additional expenses (as they always come up). From inspection costs to homeowners insurance to HOA fees, new homes require a lot of extra costs up front, sometimes even before you can move in. As your realtor, we will figure out a good budget for you to have before we begin the shopping for homes in Phoenix!
I believe that the best surprises are no surprises!
