As most of you know, I love Phoenix and all that it has to offer. From the weather to the wide open spaces, our little pocket of desert-heaven is the place to raise your family.
However, the day-to-day work, school, home, repeat routine can get to be quite drab. Break out of your usual suburban routine this month with these fun activities!
Take your significant other out for some much needed alone time or bring the whole family on an adventure. Discover things to do in West Phoenix this month.
No, I’m not kidding. It may sound a little wild, but you can’t judge it until you’ve tried it! Peoria Balloon Rides offers the perfect experience of the wide open desert- from the skies! Talk about maximum exhilaration with minimum exertion. Not to mention, they offer great group specials. Not in Peoria? They have location all over the Valley! Check out these photos from other balloon riders over the years! When you go, ask them if you can choose which colorful balloon you go up in… I have always wanted to know.
Whether you’re Irish or not, themed runs are always a blast. This one is on Saint Patrick’s day in the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale. From 17k to kids run, this run is huge. There are four leaf clovers along the course that you can redeem for prizes and ‘luck’! It’s a timed event and each section begins at a different time. There is a 17k group, 8k group, 4k group, and 1k group. While I am an avid runner, the best part of this day is hands down the costume contests: Best Wearin O’Green, Most St. Patty’s Spirit, and Dog Costume. Gather your family’s lads and lassies for this day of green. (You can even bring your pets!) Find more information and registration here.
CityScape “Check, Please!” Food Festival
Channel Eight’s Check, Please! show is reaching massive success amongst viewers, so they have decided to present an interactive culinary experience in downtown Phoenix. If you don’t already know, CityScape is the newly renovated space downtown that boasts amazing outdoor eateries, live music, and activities all within walking distance. This year’s eating event will be on March 22 from 11am-3pm. From the bold foodie adventurers, to those picky kiddos, the Arizona culinary scene is bringing its A-game for this event. Tickets are little pricey, but they include food, wine, and beer samples along with the cooking classes, discussions, and demonstrations. Grab your tickets now because last year it sold out!
The Phoenix Art Museum is curating a unique exhibit this month…Japanese contemporary art. This is a fascinating topic to me (and not just because I love sushi…)! Did you know that women in Japan were not permitted to be artist apprentices so that most of what they produce now has little to no influence from Japanese tradition? This means that while elegant and contemporary, we are witnessing a completely fresh voice in Oriental art. Check out this exhibit (or just explore the museum) until April 1st!
While I don’t know much about them myself, many Arizona folks are quite proud of their gun collections. The Crossroads of the West show has shot through 40 years of production and become America’s largest producer of gun shows. This March 21-22, they are coming to the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. The event will feature anything and everything from handguns to hunting supplies! I hear it’s quite fun for anyone, even if you’re a newbie like me! For more information and tickets visit their page.
